Battle At The Border - Jorge Madrid, New Mexico Golden Gloves State Champion
Early April, I made a trip home to meet Jorge Madrid, the New Mexico Golden Gloves State Champion and his Coach Leo Hand. I kept seeing articles about a kid from my home town Columbus, NM making waves in the New Mexico boxing circuit. I had to learn more, so I sent him a message asking if I could tell his story. I met them at their gym, a classroom in an old school that I grew up in and learned math, social studies and english. It was graciously donated by the mayor of the city and was repurposed to train a state boxing champion.
